Belarus presented in Geneva an Exposition devoted to traditional crafts and national ornaments

On 25 September 2018, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva hosted the Regional exhibition of Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Caucasus Group “Cultural Convergence: Unity in Diversity”.

National expositions were presented by Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Dr. Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO, heads of national intellectual property centers as well as heads of diplomatic missions in Geneva attended the opening ceremony of the event.

The exhibition was dedicated to traditional types of human activities and their corresponding products, which are protected by geographical indications mechanism.

H.E. Mr. Yury Ambrazevich, Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva, informed visitors and exhibitors with a country stand dedicated to traditional crafts and national ornaments. The exhibition was prepared by the Belarusian Permanent Mission in partnership with the Belarusian National Center of Intellectual Property.

In his welcoming remarks, H.E. Mr. Yury Ambrazevich noted that the national ornament and traditional crafts carry a deep symbolism reflecting the destiny and character of the people. He also drew attention to the logical closeness and graphic similarity of the ornaments of different nations, especially neighboring ones. The Belarusian diplomat stressed that such similarity is undoubtedly a cultural expression of the common roots of the mankind and its common values, which imposes a shared responsibility on all peoples for the development of the whole civilization and every one individually.
