Belarus presents its cultural heritage in the UN Office in Geneva
28.04.2017On April 27, 2017 a cultural event “Belarusian Spring Celebration” took place in the United Nations Office in Geneva. The event presented the reach folk traditions and diverse intangible heritage of the Republic of Belarus to Geneva international community.
The Celebration was organized by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus in Geneva in cooperation with the Institute of Culture of Belarus under the aegis of the United Nations Cultural Activities Programme and supported by the UNESCO Liaison Office in Geneva.
The photo and informational exhibition, the performance of folk spring rites, songs and dances by the musical company “Vietakh” with the elements of birds welcoming were introduced at the United Nations.
The official part of the event was attended by Yury Ambrazevich, Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva, Salman Bal, Chief of the Political Affairs and Partnership Section of the Office of the Director-General, Abdulaziz Al Muzaini, Director of the UNESCO Liaison Office in Geneva.
The Permanent Representative of Belarus in his addresses to the participants underlined the special role of the cultural exchanges for the strengthening of international cooperation. He expressed an opinion that the resemblance of folk traditions in different parts of the word shows that people and countries much more united than it sometimes seemed.
The bird houses “Sinichnik” were transmitted to the Director General of UNOG. As a gift of the Republic of Belarus they will be placed on the trees of the historic park “Ariana” of the United Nations Office in Geneva.
