On Belarus participation in the round table on the circular economy under the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development

On 15 March 2021, a round table “Making sustainable production and consumption work for the circular economy of tomorrow” took place within the program of the Regional Forum of Sustainable Development for the UNECE region.

The topic of the event corresponds to the theme of the UNECE 69th session “Promotion of ircular economy and sustainable use of natural resources”, which takes place on 20-21 April 2021. Mr. Dmitry Mariyasin, Deputy Executive Secretary of UNECE, delivered his address at the opening ceremony.

During the event, the Head of the General Directorate for Environmental Policy, International Cooperation and Science  of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Belarus Ms. Tatyana Kononchuk made a presentation and briefed the participants on the work carried out by the Government of Belarus to develop circular economy and its elements in conjunction with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Particular attention was paid to the results of the application of the UNIDO Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Concept at Belarusian enterprises.

Ms. Tatyana Kononchuk also presented possible directions of UNECE technical assistance to Belarus aimed to advance circular economy, including on the development of a draft National strategy for a circular economy until 2035, the establishment of legislative framework and the implementation of pilot projects at Belarusian enterprises to promote eco-design and business models for products.
