Cooperation of the Republic of Belarus with International Organizations in Geneva
Geneva is a location area of the European branch of the United Nations.
The office is managed by the Director-General who has the rank of Under-Secretary-General of the organization and also serves as Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament.
In Geneva there are more than 50 international organizations among which the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, specialized agencies of the United Nations (WMO, WHO, WIPO, ILO, ITU), UN programs and funds (UNHCR, UNCTAD, UNEP) and other UN agencies (UNAIDS, UNISDR), UN subsidiary bodies (HRS) and a part of the UN Secretariat (OHCHR, OCHA). In addition, Geneva is rightfully considered the humanitarian capital of the world. There are the most important international organizations that provide humanitarian assistance in the event of natural disasters and protracted humanitarian crises in connection with armed conflicts, as well as the International Committee of the Red Cross – an independent humanitarian organization with a special status recognized in the Geneva Conventions of 1949 that form international humanitarian law .
